The MCAS diet journey!

Writer's picture: Jessy Jessy

Refining my approach to managing MCAS has become a deeply personal journey. Following consultations with medical professionals, nutritionists, and thorough research, I’m embarking on a new dietary strategy. Amidst the plethora of recommendations circulating online—from low histamine to keto—I’ve already experimented with various approaches, including Keto, Whole30, veganism, and vegetarianism, each offering some relief on different fronts.

However, despite my efforts, my symptoms have continued to escalate in recent weeks, leading me to suspect a more pronounced role of MCAS in my health challenges. Even meticulously prepared organic meals, once a source of comfort, now trigger adverse reactions, suggesting a broader sensitivity beyond additives.

As I chart my course forward, I’ve chosen to prioritize gluten-free, dairy-free, and yeast-free options in my diet, with the hope of mitigating exposure to histamine-rich foods as well.

A curious realization has emerged along the way: my aversion to leftovers. It seems there’s wisdom in this instinct, as I’ve learned that histamine levels tend to rise in aged foods. It’s a poignant reminder of the intricate dialogue between our bodies and the foods we consume.

I will periodically update on this blog, and I will try to do daily updates on instagram and Snapchat!
